Black oxid finish (Burnishing)

Black oxid coatings are chemically generated in a high-temperature alkaline solution. On steel products this process forms a black oxide coating. This coating features a limited resistance to corrosion. The corrosion protection of a black oxid coatings can be enhanced by applying an oil film, intensifying the black colour and giving it lustre.

Stainless steel can also be blackened using a special process similar to burnishing.
